GROUNDWORK

Groundwork is Aazaad’s workshop and facilitation arm committed to the development of skills, strategies and shared language to enable real transformative change in the systems and communities within which we work.

This includes a range of tailored services such as workshops, facilitation, mediation, supervision, program design and development and community-led strategy and co-design.

WORKSHOPS

WORKSHOPS: FAMILY & DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

These workshops focus on the systemic narratives of FDV in everyday spaces. They are designed to explore how normative systems train us to render violence invisible even while in plain sight. We excavate how collusion happens and how systems and normative behaviours reinforce harm through decentring the strength and expertise of survivors.

Rooted in anti-oppressive and decolonial frameworks, this training provides participants with tools to identify, respond to and challenge violence in all its forms.

FACILITATION

Aazaad offers thoughtful, values-led facilitation for gatherings, strategy sessions, community conversations or organisational processes. We facilitate space for complexity, self reflexivity, accountability and honest connection — especially when the stakes are high.

Co-facilitation is also available, particularly in intercultural or minority spaces, where we bring an additional layer of relational sensitivity and shared power to the process.

FACILITATION

MEDIATION

MEDIATION

Aazaad offers support to prepare for and facilitate mediation processes — especially in cross-cultural, community and organisational contexts where power, race, culture and conflict intersect. We work closely with the communities and parties involved to ensure the right people are included, that processes are grounded in cultural safety and that resolution efforts are guided by shared values, accountability and integrity. When needed, we collaborate with other mediators, facilitators and peacemakers — especially those with lived experience or trusted community relationships. This ensures our work is contextually grounded and genuinely constructive.

AFTERTHEORY

Aftertheory is Aazaad’s space for supervision and reflective practice – a place to pause, process and deepen our work. Rooted in abolitionist and liberatory frameworks, Aftertheory offers spaces for practitioners, organisers and teams to reflect critically and with care on their roles, responsibilities and relationships to systems of power. We focus on practice integrity, systemic analysis and sustaining work over the long haul without losing sight of justice, care and accountability to the communities and people we work alongside.

SUPERVISION

SUPERVISION

Critical, strengths-based, reflective and generative supervision for practitioners, organisers and teams. Our focus is on practice integrity, systemic analysis and sustaining the work over the long haul — without losing sight of justice, care and accountability to the communities and people we work alongside.

Our supervision approach is collaborative and designed to support individuals and teams to deepen their knowledge and skills, while cultivating critical reflexivity in both thinking and action.

COLLECTIVE LEARNING & PRACTICE SUPPORT

Our collaborative case conference approach resists punitive frameworks through strengths-based strategies that hold both care and accountability at their centre. Designed to share knowledge across teams, cross-disciplinary groups, collectives and community spaces, our methods are tailored to operate in complex, high-stakes or ethically challenging contexts.

We also facilitate critical incident debriefing and adaptive workshops that meet emerging needs within teams and movements — supporting reflection, relational repair and collective learning.

COLLECTIVE LEARNING

PATTERNSHIFT

PATTERNSHIFT: RE-IMAGINING PROGRAMS

Patternshift is where Aazaad works with you to reimagine what programs can be — and who they’re for. We partner with communities, organisations and collectives to co-design initiatives that build power and centre care, collective liberation and radical imagination in order to disrupt harmful norms.

This is not program work as usual. We resist bureaucratic, top-down approaches that reduce people to data or outcomes. Instead, Patternshift is about deep listening, community-led design and shaping initiatives that make space for safety, self-determination, creativity and meaningful structural change.

PROGRAM DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT

We collaborate to design, review, and develop programs, campaigns, initiatives, or practice frameworks. Our approach is informed by the insights and leadership of those most proximate to and affected by the work, relational accountability, care, and community-led practice. We also prioritise clarity about systems, understanding how they operate and how we can act differently within them.

Whether starting from scratch or reshaping existing programs that no longer fit, we work with communities, groups, businesses and organisations who want to do things differently.

PROGRAM DESIGN

SELF DETERMINATION

STRATEGY: SELF DETERMINATION

We work with communities to identify priorities, shape strategies and lead projects and programs. Working alongside Elders, cultural advisors and community organisations, we use our intercultural expertise to strengthen  community-led decision-making. Through participatory design, forums, workshops and talking groups, we foreground community leadership and expertise so communities direct every stage of project development in culturally safe, inclusive and enduring ways.
